Carol Brill

carol-brillSeeing Disney is a fundraising campaign to help Dubliner Carol Brill realise a dream before completely losing her sight to Usher Syndrome, a devastating rare genetic disease, which causes both hearing and sight loss.  There is currently no known treatment or cure. With only 3% of her vision left, Carol’s dream was to see her daughter’s smiles as she celebrates her 8th birthday in DisneyWorld, Florida, last July.  A fundraising target of €10,000 was set so that Seeing Disney could become a reality.
During this trip, Carol completed the second stage of participation in a research study at the National Eye Institute, Bethesda, Maryland.  This research study aims to get a deeper understanding of the progression of Usher Syndrome.
After the hospital tests, Carol travelled to Baltimore to speak at the Foundation Fighting Blindness Visions Conference, which was attended by over 600 people. Sara travelled to the USA to join Carol to attend the Usher Coalition Conference in New Orleans and then onto Disneyworld to celebrate Sara’s 8th birthday. All of this was achieved with the help of Social Media.
